Next week: Discussion with Martin Jay on Weds (12/9) & Jupiter on Thurs (12/10)

2 Dec

Dear all,

We apologize for a brief hiatus in communication from us, but we’re back and ready to celebrate the semester’s close with good conversation and camaraderie. Next Wednesday, Dec 9, we’re collaborating with the Intellectual History Working Group to sponsor a discussion with Martin Jay. The event takes place from 4-6pm in 3401 Dwinelle, and it will focus on three pre-circulated works by Jay: “Historical Explanation and the Event,” “The Textual Approach to Intellectual History,” and “Two Cheers for Paraphrase- the Confessions of a Synoptic Intellectual Historian.”

The next evening, Dec 10, we’ll meet at Jupiter to celebrate the end of the semester. This will be a laid-back gathering rather than a formal discussion, but we are circulating a brief excerpt of  Jane Bennett’s “vital materialist” engagement with Adorno – feel free to read the whole chapter or just pp 13-17, in which she discusses Adorno. Please join us from 5pm onward to have a drink and some delicious food, and look forward to the revolution.*

We hope to see you at one or both events next week!

*Or, we can at least look forward to dispersing and then reuniting in the spring.
