Discussion of “The Idea of Natural-History” Monday, 9/28, @ 5:30pm

24 Sep

Please join us this coming Monday, 9/28, at 5:30pm in Wheeler Hall 306 for a continuation of our inquiry into Adorno’s writings on “nature.” At this meeting, we will pick up threads from last week’s discussion of the opaque writing on Kierkegaard, but our focus will be on “The Idea of Natural-History,” with reference to Robert Hullot-Kentor’s introduction to the essay.  As always, food and wine will be on hand to fuel and inspire our conversation.

We also wanted to be sure you’re all aware of a pertinent event the Critical Theory program is putting on next Tuesday evening: a talk titled, “The Phenomenological Antinomies and the Phenomenology of Antinomianism: Adorno and Scholem on Authority and Law” (more info here).

First meeting: Monday, 9/14, @ 5:30 in 306 Wheeler

Hello Frankfurtish Friends!

Thank you to those who filled out our poll. It looks like Monday evenings work slightly better than other days of the week, so we’re convening our first working group meeting of the year on Monday the 14th, at 5:30pm in room 306 Wheeler Hall. Our discussion will cover chapters 2, 3, and 7 of Adorno’s Kierkegaard, Construction of the Aesthetic, leading us into consideration of “nature” through Frankfurt lenses. A pdf of the reading is available [here]. A word of warning: this is a long a rather dense reading. Make of it what you can, and we look forward to thinking through it together!
